ahhhh- the lastest chapter makes me love Komatsu even more
like, it’s not even that he’s the first person (probably since Frohze) to make Midora smile with a meal
but because of the reason behind it (or what I see as the reason, although they might just chalk it up to komatsu’s talent in the manga)
because it’s not like Komatsu’s the best chef in the room (he’s hella good, but probably not the best) and working with the ‘leftover’ ingredients probably doesn’t help- so i don’t think that it’s the food that really did it
but the feelings behind the food, because I think Komatsu’s the first person since Frohze to cook for Midora because they wanted to feed someone who was hungry. Like, whenever the bishokukai prepared meals for it, I’d guess they’d do it because ‘the boss told them to’ or ‘to make midora-sama stronger’, while many of the chefs refused to feed him because he was a bad guy, or because they were better than feeding someone like Midora, and chances are if they had made him something it would have been a ‘i’ll make this so that I’m not killed’ sort of deal. So I think Komatsu’s the first person in a long while to look past his title as the bishokukai boss, and look past who he was, and to just see someone who was hungry; and I think that’s what made the difference here.
But I also like how this is a common thing with him too. Like, back in the 4 beasts arc, Komatsu’s talent seemed to be his ability to make ingredients easier to cook- so easy that millions of chefs would be able to make something that, normally, only a handful of people would be able to. And even that’s fantastic because it meant that more people could eat it food that they wouldn’t have been able to eat otherwise (like the food from the food temple)
and just- I think that’s my favorite thing about Komatsu. He’s a chef who makes food for hungry people to eat; and he doesn’t really let anything get in the way of that. Even if it involves making it for scary people (midora and zebra) or working with questionable people (fucking livebearer) he keeps that goal in mind and that’s honestly 70% of why he’s my favorite character hands down
hahah, I kinda got off topic there, but anyway, that’s my thoughts on the last chapter
